Fruits and Vegetables 

  • Whole citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, and limes, should be stored in the crisper drawer of the fridge. If you want to consume them within 2-3 days, then you can store them at room temperature. 
  • Unripe mangoes can be kept at room temperature for a few days. When they turn ripe, it is best to place them in the refrigerator. 
  • To increase the shelf life of berries, rinse them with vinegar, dry them thoroughly, and place them in the fridge. 
  • Leafy greens like lettuce, spinach, and kale, stay fresh longer when they are rinsed, wrapped in paper, and kept in the fridge. 
  • Store potatoes and onions in a cool, dry, and dark place. Ensure that the container is well-ventilated to allow any excess moisture to evaporate. 


  • For long-term storage, wash the meat, place it in a clean container or ziplock bag, and pop it in the freezer. 
  • If you are going to consume the meat within 2-3 days, then you can store it in the fridge. 
  • It is best to consume refrigerated minced meat within 24 hours. If you want to store it for longer, then toss it in the freezer. 

Spices and Dry Groceries

  • All spices should be stored in airtight containers and should be kept in a cool, dry place. It is advisable to keep spices away from heat and humidity. Hence, do not store them next to the stove or oven. 
  • Coffee should be stored in an opaque, air-tight container at room temperature. 
  • Storing flours in the fridge prevents them from going rancid. Certain flours such as oats flour spoil easily in warm temperatures.
